The Not-So-Best and Slightly Dim at work… Pt. 1

As promised, a look at some of the other political shenanigans going on in the country.

My last post rather implied that there was only the two parties to choose from, but strictly speaking that isn’t exactly accurate. So I wish to take a look at what the Tea Party is espousing these days…

Oh, my stars and garters, buckle up, it’s gonna get a bit bumpy… The below is from the Tea Party website… Parenthetical asides, where they exist, are mine…

The site talks about the Big Lies coming out of Washington, and goes on to enumerate and then refudiate four of them.

Today we look at ‘Big Lie Number One…”

Big Lie Number One:

Bush created all of these problems.  We are trying to solve them but it’s much worse than we thought and it will take years for our solutions to have an impact.

There are numerous facts available to disprove this. But two of the biggest and best are:

Fact 1

President Obama increased spending and the size of government more than all previous presidents (from George Washington through George Bush)

COMBINED.

President Obama created that problem and he should own it.

Fact 2

The number one, most important job of the House of Representatives every year is to create a federal budget. Under Nancy Pelosi (while Obama was in office) the House did not create a federal budget. They didn’t even try. They did, however, write endless blank checks for Obama to use on his wild spending spree.

The liberal congress created that problem and they should own it.

We are hitting the debt ceiling because they went nuts with the country’s credit card for the past 28 months.  It’s not someone else’s fault.  The problem was created quickly and it can be solved quickly by cutting spending and cutting up the credit card.  Raising the debt ceiling will only make it worse. PURE AND SIMPLE.  Don’t buy it when they tell you it’s more complicated than that.

Preaching to the choir doesn’t help us solve the problem.  In order to have a real impact we need to get this message to a bigger audience.

Tea Party Patriots Plans to Blitz the Media with our Message.

By putting Tea Party Patriots in front of cameras, behind microphones, in advertisements, and in print all over the country we spread the word to millions who will be inspired to act and make their opinion heard in the halls of congress.

We also bring together hundreds of local Tea Party Leaders every Monday night by conference call, and every few months at regional meetings.  These local grassroots leaders decide what issues we’re going to tackle, craft our strategies for success, and go back to their local groups to put boots on the ground.

In the past two years we’ve proven that we can very effectively rally millions to our cause when we need them.

And we need them now.

You might be surprised to learn how much money it costs to sustain an effort like this. Liberal groups like MoveOn.org have annual budgets exceeding $31,000,000 (thirty-one million dollars) at their disposal. Being conservatives, ours is considerably less.

But our accomplishments on a small budget speak for themselves.

We’re proud of our track record of good stewardship, hard work, and big results.

Your donations to Tea Party Patriots always go a long, long way to promote and preserve fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free markets in America.

‘Fact 1’

I take grave exception to a number of things in this presentation, not the least of which is that calling something a ‘fact’ does not mean that it is, in fact, a ‘fact’… That, and the ‘fact’ that if you’re a card-carrying, paid up member of the Tea Party, you’re a ‘patriot’, and if you’re not carrying the card… Well… You’re either for us, or you’re for the enemy… Where have we heard that before…? Let’s see… Dick Cheney comes to mind. But then, Mao Zedong said the same thing. So the Teetotalers have a long and distinguished history of Democratic Philosophy behind them…

Obama increased government more than all other presidents combined? Oh, surely not… How are you coming up with this ‘fact’? Where are your statistics? Even high school students have to show their work… How are these statistics being used? Are you adjusting the figures for inflation? Is this even remotely based upon reality?

Well…?

No answer…?

Let’s just take a look at this off the top of my pointy little non-economist head…

You have Lincoln and the Civil War/Reconstruction, plus Andrew Jackson, plus the Louisiana Purchase, plus military adventures against the Spanish, Mexico, the French and any and all comers, plus FDR and the New Deal/ World War II, plus Wilson and World War I, plus Truman and the Marshall Plan, plus Reagan and the massive peace-time build up of the military (the largest in history, if memory serves (SEE HERE)) and forays into Central and South America, plus the Vietnam and Korean wars, plus the bilateral Bushies’ meddling in the middle east, plus the economic stimulus/bailouts/two overseas wars originated/approved by Dubya…

I’m having a hard time balancing just those things alone, not to mention everything else I haven’t mentioned, up against the things that may be legitimately laid at the feet of Obama. Are you laying Iraq and Afghanistan, plus the bailouts, on Obama? But surely you can’t blame him for something he didn’t originate? Dubya found, upon stealing… uh, I mean, taking office, the largest surplus in US history, and by the time he left he had parlayed that into the largest deficit in history. (SEE HERE) Not bad for just eight years of work, but if a surplus you didn’t create is to your credit, just because you happen to be in office at the time, then the deficit you did create is also laid against your account, because you happen to be in office at the time. You can’t have it both ways, people, although the main feature of the political discourse these days seems to be an insistence, by all sides, on just that. Fair is fair. If the things Obama inherited can be laid against his account then we need to change the rules of baseball, which clearly state that a relief pitcher is not responsible for the runners he inherits. Surely Abner Doubleday is as expert in this matter as the writers of ‘Fact 1’…

‘Fact 2’

Where to begin…? How about a reminder of what is being claimed…

First of all, last I looked, Obama IS in office… Not was… And saying the House didn’t even try to pass a budget just belies ‘facts’… And saying the Houses’ number one, most important job is to pass a budget, without Constitutional and/or Congressional citations as to the number one, most important job of the House, makes the assertion about as ‘factual’ as Fact 1 above… And where were you when the House was writing blank checks for two wars and the most massive bailout of private industry in the history of… history…? The language being used is hateful and divisive, inaccurate, BULLYING, not factual nor even grammatically correct. I may, or may not, ‘buy it’ when I’m told it’s more complicated, but I sure as hell ain’t ‘buying it’ when you use words in this manner, just because you say so… PURE AND SIMPLE… We all have opinions as to how we might have gotten into this mess, and what’s required to get out of it, but this website doesn’t have the integrity of a grade school essay, much less the integrity necessary to speak to the largest economy on the planet. Either cite your sources and submit your ‘facts’ to be vetted by acknowledged experts, or get off the podium. You’re… not… helping…

Point 3

You might be surprised to learn how much money it costs to sustain an effort like this. Liberal groups like MoveOn.org have annual budgets exceeding $31,000,000 (thirty-one million dollars) at their disposal. Being conservatives, ours is considerably less.

These kinds of statements always make my eyes bleed…  First of all, is it ALL liberal groups have a combined budget exceeding $31,000,000 (Thirty-one million dollars (Thanks for making that clear; I don’t know nuttin’ ’bout countin’ no zeroes…)), or MoveOn.org with that figure alone…? Honestly, what this party needs more than anything is a good editor…

“Being conservatives, ours is considerably less.”

What does that even mean…? Because you’re conservative, you’re poor? Because you’re conservative, they’re evil…? Because they’re liberal, you’re fish…? Because you’re fish, they’re protons…? It’s this kind of word usage that drives me right off the deep end… The terribly sad part (and I do mean those words; I am terrified at the lack of self-examination, and the level of self-deluding hubris) of it is that they don’t even understand that they aren’t making any sense. They’re proud of their illiteracy… They think that yelling the loudest makes them right, as if there’s no such thing as being a Tea Party member and being wrong; the two are mutually incompatible… If you aren’t even competent in your own native language, what chance do you have of ever understanding someone from a different country, interpreter or no…? Sure, you got this guy who speaks Chinese, you betcha…, but you don’t even understand the English he’s translating the Chinese into, so how are you going to oh what the hell let’s just nuke ’em… I got me some wolves to shoot from a helicopter… In a fiscally responsible manner, of course…

And then we have the following…

Your donations to Tea Party Patriots always go a long, long way to promote and preserve fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free markets in America.

So do contributions to SarahPAC (SEE HERE)… From the official website…

The “One Nation Tour” is part of our new campaign to educate and energize Americans about our nation’s founding principles, in order to promote the Fundamental Restoration of America. You can show your support for the Fundamental Restoration of America and the “One Nation Tour” by making a generous donation to SarahPAC today and following the bus tour every stop of the way on our SarahPAC website.

So… Contributions to the Teetotalers and the tour go a long way to promote and preserve fiscal responsibility… Not to mention purchasing big shiny buses for personal family vacations, where you can go to famous sites in American history and not learn a thing…

Of course, that’s not going to stop you from edumacating everyone else…

I know I titled this post, in part, Part 1, but I don’t really think I can do the other three ‘big lies’…
It’s tough to type when your eyes are bleeding…
