Today is the ‘birthday’ of the United States of America, a nation founded on the ideas of liberty, if not yet well-versed on the practical side of those ideas.
Good ideas need time to work out the kinks.
But today we try to forget our differences, to the best of our individual abilities, and celebrate what we’ve accomplished.
As always, your ideas of what we’ve accomplished might actually be anathema to others within the country. But that’s the whole point about the US of A. It’s a nation also built on the idea that we are all created equal, with certain inalienable rights. One person, one vote. No one person should have any more say than any other.
We’ve strayed, it’s true…
Your ideas of how we’ve wandered from the straight and narrow might not align with my views.
I understand, and I celebrate the fact that we both have the right to air our perspectives, without fear of retribution, imprisonment or censure.
I wish, especially today, of all days, that everyone could celebrate that right, for all of us.
Happy Birthday, America.
