Love is the difficult realization that something other than oneself is real.
In philosophy if you aren’t moving at a snail’s pace you aren’t moving at all.
Philosophy! Empty thinking by ignorant conceited men who think they can digest without eating!
The cry of equality pulls everyone down.
Happiness is a matter of one’s most ordinary and everyday mode of consciousness being busy and lively and unconcerned with self.
The absolute yearning of one human body for another particular body and its indifference to substitutes is one of life’s major mysteries.
Falling out of love is very enlightening. For a short while you see the world with new eyes.

IRIS MURDOCH – whose birthday we remember on this date.
It’s interesting to look at the quotes I choose for these small appreciations of mine.
I find they reveal a bit about what might be going on in the background of my own life.
A revelation which might otherwise remain hidden from me.
I’m not so sure the same can be said for others who list quotes they might like.
That might be taking it a bit far.
To read something into the selections of others is a liberty I’m not so willing to take.
Of course, there are some who will insist you do so.
I won’t be held accountable for instances of that nature.

Found this trying to find a really dry philosophy meme to send my friend for his birthday. Love your writing!

Iris Murdoch is certainly someone, well, there’s proof she’s prolific & profound/ Years ago, late, warm glass near my hand, I wrote her a letter to tell her that, as I started a few steps in another novel of hers, I felt that old feeling as I immersed myself into the dense, wordy world of hers, I felt good.
She wrote me back (from the very early stages of her famous fog), She was sweet & delighted to hear that she had a fan in S.W. Florida/ I’ve proudly framed her kind connection.
