“… I’m writing a book…”

“If you have an important point to make, don’t try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time – a tremendous whack.”
Winston Churchill

“Grammar is a piano I play by ear. All I know about grammar is its power.”
Joan Didion

“I’m writing a book. I’ve got the page numbers done.”
Steven Wright

“I have never started a poem yet whose end I knew. Writing a poem is discovering.”
Robert Frost

“Writing is an act of faith, not a trick of grammar.”
EB White

“Writing is a journey of discovery because until you start, you never know what will happen, and you can be surprised by what you do – expect the unexpected!”
Mini Grey

“Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers.”
Isaac Asimov

“When you’re writing, you’re conjuring. It’s a ritual, and you need to be brave and respectful and sometimes get out of the way of whatever it is that you’re inviting into the room.”
Tom Waits

And the one quote that might (perhaps) speak to a possible reason for why we choose to write in the first place. Or play music, or do anything at all… The one quote I’ve found (today!) that kinda sums it all up… for me…

“The true object of all human life is play. Earth is a task garden; heaven is a playground.”
GK Chesterton

At least, it’s a prime motivator for me… I try to make every day as playful as possible.
Alas and alack, most of us have forgotten what it’s like to play as a child.
And so we no longer do it as well as we used to.
