Happy Birthday…

I write for the same reason I breathe – because if I didn’t, I would die.

Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.

Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers.

It pays to be obvious, especially if you have a reputation for subtlety.

When I read about the way in which library funds are being cut and cut, I can only think that American society has found one more way to destroy itself.

Issac Asimov – whose birthday we remember on this day.

If there is one ‘speculative fiction’ author I had to point to as a great joy, and thus a great influence upon my life, it would have to be Asimov. Almost from the time I began reading for my own pleasure, his books played a pivotal part in my personal library.

The Foundation Series
I, Robot

His work as an editor on Sci-Fi collections is probably responsible for more authors become known to the general public than any other single reason I can think of. Many’s the writer I would give a try, simply because “Issac said so…”

But my first and most lasting impression came from a novel called Fantastic Voyage.
What a nondescript title, for such a seminal work.
The idea behind it gives me shivers of delight to this day.

Happy birthday, Issac.

  1. A beautiful way to bring in the New Year ~ a great post and best to you with your writing in the New Year. Cheers to a great 2016.

  2. “La violencia es el último refugio del incompetente”. El mundo está gobernado por incompetentes, de esto no hay duda, dado el nivel de violencia general.

    • Supongo que tienes razón … pero me pregunto si no podría ser un reflejo de lo que somos como seres humanos. No veo exactamente mucha moderación en su promedio de “hombre de la calle”, cuando se llega a fin de cuentas.
      Gracias por leer.
