Today is the day we remember the birthday of Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin.
Better known to the world at large as Charlie.
Born on this date… we think… in 1889.
That would make him… hmmm.
Let’s see…
From the year 1889 to the 2016 equals…
Carry the one…
Pretty gosh darn old, when you get right down to it…
Sadly, he’s no longer with us.
The following is a clip from his first full-length feature.
Full length being, of course, a relative term.
With many of the modern films now pushing 2.5 to 3 hours in length, I wonder if an audience from Chaplin’s era could have sat through an entire offering from, say, James Cameron, without losing it’s mind.
I know I can’t… but it has nothing to do with the length of the film, and more to do with my own peculiar lack of sympathies for what has proven to be the more popular and enduring recent forms of Chaplin’s art…
Anywhoo…
Go find The Gold Rush, or any of Chaplin’s other classic films, if you don’t already know them.
There’s a reason they are still revered to this day.

Watching this little film made my day! Besides the humor, the honesty of it —and lack of hypocrisy about violence—is priceless!

Okay, see, I replied to your comment from yesterday, and sent it off…
But I was inhabiting a building with spotty (at best) reception, and the lil’ bugger still hasn’t come home to roost.
I wonder where lost posts go, when they wander off into the ether…
Do they put their picture on the sides of the mailers for the electronics superstores?
Or perhaps we have to imagine an e-milk carton, with aimless and confused ramblings rather… um… rambling about.
Anywho…
Glad you like the posts…
