What’s in a name…?

Well, let’s just see what’s been going on in this great big ol’ world, on this date in history…

You’ve got John (or Jan) Hus, a Bohemian priest, a philosopher and an early Christian reformer… He was a big influence on John Wesley and Martin Luther, and was Master at the university in Prague.
He was influenced by John Wycliffe

It’s a little known fact that people way back when used to place their names in the same order that we do in America, right to the present day.
Since then, however, Bohemians everywhere have messed with the cosmic order of things, and will place their names all higgledy-piggledy, and sometimes even with their  last name first.
Which, as a method of protesting the decadent, imperialist West, the Chinese liked pretty well, so now they do the same thing.

True story…

Wyclef Jean, or John Wycliffe…
It’s all the same to me.
And while it’s been said that the last shall be first, I don’t think monikers were the intended target…

So, on this date, in 1415, John Hus, a Bohemian religious reformer was, um…
Oh, dear…
… burned at the stake.

Okay, yeah, not so good…
Let’s forget about him.
Moving on!
Well, how about this dude, then…?

Thomas More… Sir Thomas, to all his friends…
Hung out with Hank the 8th, back in the early 16th century, or so…
Got himself elected Saint, after a rather bitterly contested primary…
This guy right here:

Skrillex was, of course, Sir Thomas’s street name…
Skrillex, also know as Sonny John Moore, or Tommy, to his friends…
Yeah, see, Tommy, on this date in 1535 was, um…

Oh, my…
Beheaded…

What was it with Henry and his fixation on people’s necks…?
And the foreshortening thereof…?

Okay, so July the 6th isn’t necessarily a good date in history to be associated with the Church…
ANY church, when you come right down to it…

Well…
Anything going on in history that didn’t involve the forceful removal of life and/or limb from a (I would assume) less than thrilled at the whole prospect kind of man dude type participant?

Well, today is the anniversary of the first state Republican convention…

Woof!
Three strikes, kiddo…
You’re out, July the 6th.
And the ballgame’s over.
