Playing with the software…

… to see what – if anything – I may have picked up from all the tutorial videos out there…

Yeah…

If I had to hazard a guess, I’d say “… not as much as I’d hoped…”

Too many different software programs.
Too many different ways to extrapolate your images within any one given program.
Too many “experts”…

Now, don’t get me wrong.
I really do like the fact there are so many people out there, who’ve taken the time to get good at their “hobby”, and who now want to share their knowledge with the larger populace.

It’s just that we’re not all starting on the same page…
From the same starting point.

And you’re sure to want to do something different to the above picture, from what I did.

It makes for a distressingly large number of hidden assumptions; behind the teachings, and behind where I am, at any given moment.

And when someone vlogs that we’ll “… start with a luminosity mask in Photoshop…”

Okay, now I have to see how I might accomplish the same thing in a different software.
Because I’m just not that fond of Photoshop.

But first I need to find out what is meant by a luminosity mask; and does the “expert” explaining this concept mean by that what the guy who’s telling me to start with one means… er, um… by that…

A straight-ahead process now becomes rather complicated.

Because like everything else on this planet, photography software has its own peculiar language.
And it’s really tough to become proficient at something if you’re not fluent in their language.

And quite honestly, I’m not really that interested in geeking out over the whole thing.

It’s kinda like asking for directions in a foreign country…

“You know, just point me in the right direction, and I’ll go from there…”

And don’t even get me started on the whole “capturing the picture” discussion…
