You guys know how this works…

You produce something… be it poetry/prose, music, art… whatever… that you think you might kinda like show to other people…

… a bit…

And then you spend an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out how to make it better.
Obsessing over the details, reliving the decisions that led you to this choice or that…
Trying to figure out how to make it a more perfect expression of your inner self…

Or something like that.

And now, in getting into the summer astrophotography season, I’m being forced to try and improve my developmental techniques…

Living in southern New England, as I do, makes a truly dark sky something of a challenge to find.

So I vacillate between under-processing and over-processing…
Between a truer representation of what you might actually be seeing with the unclothed eye, and what it is we all wished we could readily see, without any photographic wizardry…

Changing the background of the blog to a somewhat darker theme has done a bit of wonderment for the photos…
But the tradeoff is a more difficult to read text…
And a few other anomalies I’ll need to figure out…

So far, no one’s complained…
But that just may be due to the lack of anyone actually reading anything I write…

😠!!!

There’s a previous photo of this location, though not of this same shot, to be found here
The difference between the two might be hard to spot, at first…
This shot was taken earlier in the evening, as evidenced by the level of light on the mountains to the right….
And there are no meteorites to distract one from a closer examination of the technical aspects of the photo.

I think I find this latest attempt to be somewhat cleaner in execution.

And there’s a bit of foreground visible (?) to break the picture up a bit…

But it’s in the photos’ cleanliness that I’m currently focused on…
(… see what I did there?)

There’s always going to be some amount of noise, I guess
At least, until someone teaches me how to get rid of it, there will be…

Given the nature of the beast I’m wrestling with…

Until the day I get it all figured out. I’ll just keep plugging away…
Shooting up into the night sky.
Pointing out the wonders of the universe…

You might be alternatively amazed and/or distraught to learn how many people there are who can’t identify what they’re seeing in the above picture…

Incremental steps, people…

Incremental steps…
