Month: August 2017

Well, I’m back…

… and a bit worse for the wear, let me tell you… You remember in the last post how I said I’d settle for 2 out of 3? As long as the one that went the way of all flesh was the clear roads? Yeah… well… Clear skies I was given. Clear roads, as a concept, was holy crap withheld… bigly…! Some one needs to tell all these people we’re in the middle of an infrastructure crisis… *ahem*… Advertisements

I’m off…

… to “The Great American Solar Eclipse”… Talk about your American-style arrogance!!! … like no one has ever seen an eclipse before. Or it only really counts if it happens in our country… Anyway, I’m driving down into the path of totality. Here’s hoping for clear skies, clear roads and a successful photographic adventure… Like the man sang… “Two out of three ain’t bad…” As long as the middle one is the one being sacrificed!!!   Pictures to follow some time next week…         Image found here.

Peeking through…

… I’m just so disgusted with this country right now… And I don’t even do social media, or watch broadcast news… Imagine how enraged I’d be if I paid attention to everybody else screaming right now… I can’t… I’m like the person who’s no good at long division, ’cause I just can’t even… Mostly I’m just sad… Terribly, terribly sad… So I offer up a respite from the madness of this past weekend, and out madness inducing, do-nothing, say the wrong thing at the right time every time President… A sunrise, from half-way around the world… Maybe a bit of meditation on this picture will help with a sense of perspective… I don’t know it will, or not. But anything’s worth a shot, at this point…

Another one…

Another one with the 85mm f1.2 prime, that is… Now, I’m not generally a fan of the fad shots. If you have a lens capable of incredible DOF, it doesn’t necessarily follow that everything you shoot from now on HAS to have DOF to die for… Or, DOFTDF, as it’s known in the industry… I’m not what one rather prominent YouTuber has said of himself… a bokeh whore. Still… Sometimes you happen upon a scene that just screams for the extreme treatment. This is from a decor choice outside a restaurant inside the City of Dreams casino, in Macau, China. The colors are original, the decor choice was real, and that right there is some mighty fine bokeh going on, yes sirree, Bob… Three of us had gone on a bit of a photo walk within the casino. Which was something of a mistake… Because we were all very different shooters… Ah, well…   I don’t know the aforementioned Bob, personally, nor do I even know what he looks like… But he sure turns …

Night refraction…

I found a new place to shoot the stars… It’s two degrees darker on the darksky.org site than any other place close to me Unfortunately, it’s also twice as far away as my usual area… And the night I decided to check it out, the was a 50% moon out. You may remember the 18% moon out during the shoot of the farming sheds. And how there was a more or less visible shadow of yours truly… How moly was there a visible shadow out this night. And only a 50% moon…
