… and a bit worse for the wear, let me tell you…
You remember in the last post how I said I’d settle for 2 out of 3?
As long as the one that went the way of all flesh was the clear roads?
Yeah… well…
Clear skies I was given.
Clear roads, as a concept, was holy crap withheld… bigly…!
Some one needs to tell all these people we’re in the middle of an infrastructure crisis…
*ahem*…
So far, an acceptable, if incredibly annoying, trade-off…
A successful photographic adventure…,?
Yeah…
Not so much…
In fact, it was one of the more unsuccessful photographic adventures in quite some time.
I’m rather bummed out about that.
As you can see, the focus was woefully unfocused (see what I did there?).
I mean the sun had a number of sunspots available for added interest.
But did I get them?
I should say not…!
There were a number of factors involved….
It was day three of steady, all-day-long driving.
It was incredibly bright out, which is what you want in your average, b-flat solar eclipse…
But that made it almost impossible to adjust anything with feedback from the LCD on the back of a camera… especially one pointed right at the sun.
With the set-up involved, it wasn’t possible to turn the camera out of the sun and check the picture, as I normally do.
I have a plan to fix this little problem in time for the next eclipse…
Only seven more years to go…
On the plus side, the next one will be much closer to me.
On the minus side, not crossing the breadth of the nation, as this last one did, will mean more people crowded into a smaller path…
Gonna be harder to find a good spot…
And this one wasn’t exactly easy, as it was….
So…
The chance of a lifetime, and I rather blew it.
But (hopefully) I get another crack at it…
And when I have more energy, I’ll write about how incredible it was to physically be there to witness this event in person…
Absolute magic!!!
Wow, these are some amazing shots of the solar eclipse! The last two are my favorite.

Good job! 🙂 I think you got some great shots! We had cloud cover for the most part, but I took pics anyway, and hope to get them posted this weekend. And, yes, in 7 years I’ll be better at it, too.
Cheerz! Uncle Tree
