Guess where…?

Unless you’re familiar with exactly this piece of work, I don’t think you’ll be able to pinpoint it… Let’s just say that it’s not where you might expect to find a representation of Bacchus/Pan/the Wild Man to be plastered. Or maybe you would expect to find it there… I live for this kind of thing… Not only is it a testament to the endless variety and creativity of man… but it really gives you a feel for a place, when you notice something that even the locals generally aren’t familiar with …   Any guesses…?         Advertisements

Happy Friday the 13th…

For those of you wondering just what the heck is going on with the above photo… Let’s say you’ve driven hours away to get to the darkest sky for (literally) states around… And let’s say that you’ve set you tripod up at the edge of a fairly substantial amount of water… Now let’s propose that the ground is decidedly sloped… and uneven… And that you are on day number ‘stupid‘ of some heavy activity. After months of not much activity to speak of. And let’s say you find yourself in some ‘ridiculous’ dark, on sloped ground, with lots of rocks… And an onset of the clumsies strikes, just as you move by said tripod…. While in the middle of a long exposure. Voila! Or, saying it like they do in southern France, Viola! I got my Halloween fright out of he way early this year. Talk about somebody needing a fresh set of undies!!! Still, it’s not a plan of action I would recommend for anyone. Even if you are trying to get rid of …

Acadia National Park…

… during a working trip to Maine some time back… What sets this one apart is not so much the actual shot as the ‘developing’, after the fact. I wonder… If the waters off-shore are a part of the National Park, how far does that extend? Can Acadia claim the 12 mile territorial boundary that nations usually reserve to themselves? Or can they go after as much territory as they have the Navy to enforce… You know, like China does…     “I hereby reclaim the island nation of Great Britain as the hereditary rightful property of the great land of Acadia National Park…” Yep… That ought to do it…   While we’re at it, we might want to explore other ‘repatriations’…   That’s right Tenerife… I’m looking at you!
