Another week spent away from home…

Weeks spent away from home are for me, seemingly, a break-even event, at the best of times. Trying to sleep in a strange bed; with noises of unknown origin, for all their familiarity. Unfamiliar tastes and smells… different rhythms to daily sounds. A month ago, or so, I posted from within the same situation. But it only took a few hours for me to find my center.. or the center. Anyway, a center was found, and allowed the week-long event to be endured with a rather larger dollop of grace than is my wont.

Rational, Evidence-Based Positions…

I’ve heard a (very intelligent) friend of mine rail against a third party; because the party in question has, in the past, allegedly denied that climate change is real. I say ‘allegedly’, because I wasn’t invited to attended that particular feté fatále. Which is proof enough for me that there is, indeed, grace in the world. Very well. Have at it. Impugn this person. Take them into a court of law, and charge them with intellectual malfeasance – with ‘gross indecency’. You might as well – given how incensed you became, at how ‘wrong’ this person is. And now…

Op-Ed…

“Every single thing I’ve ever said is, ultimately, only my opinion – a comment upon what it is I perceive to be the reality around me at any given moment. “I might say that it’s very bright out today; and everyone would know what I meant by that statement. Assuming that I’ve spoken truthfully, it’s doubtful anyone would even disagree with me. At that point, my opinion might be widely considered to have traversed over into the realm of ‘fact’. “But can you imagine a quality of light so intense, a mode of illumination so pure, that the brightest light you can think of would be as the darkest night in some other realm? “Can you see it in your mind’s eye – another mode of existence, in which the heart of our sun might leave that existence blind, from a lack of light? Imagine such a concept of darkness, which would limit our perception to the reading of a body’s internal chemistry, or the enumeration of atoms… or the making visible of that about which we now can only speculate. “What would such an intensity of sight …

“D” is for…

The idea of the A to Z Challenge is an interesting one… Interesting, in the sense of ‘… well, I can see how that might work.’ Not in the sense of ‘holy moly, why didn’t someone think of this before?’ But interesting, none the less. Imposing some semblance of structure on the subject of my posts will be, I’m sure, welcome news to my hearty and discerning readers – readers who, as you may well be aware, are composed of the cream of the crop, the salt of the earth…  and the cherry cheese strudel of the desert cart, as it rolls around trying to tempt patrons with the sinful concoctions of those evil, evil bakers at the Hungarian Pastry shop (mmmm, MMMM!!!) – readers who (I’m sure) really only ever tune in to see what kind of grammatical train wreck I happened to have gotten myself into today. “His writing is rather gruesome… horrifying, really – like an accident on the highway, between a semi-deranged fruit tree and a 4-passanger donkey colliding in the fog of our political system, as most …

Another vision…

Until people are given something to replace their vision, the violence and the killing must continue. Selfishness is all they know, and all they’ve been taught. Until they’re shown how to see the beauty in those they would destroy, they’ll continue to only be able to see that which is ugly. In general, one must be made aware of beauty’s existence. You must be shown examples, and believe you’ll find it for yourself, before you’ll go searching for it. But Beauty is not something to be impressed with anyone’s wealth, or nationality. Beauty couldn’t care less what religion you believe, and is blind to your political beliefs. It simply is… Unless the people open their eyes and minds and hearts, we’re all lost.
