Lot’s of color about…

Just not a whole lot of clear sky to go along with it… So, here we are, smack-dab in the middle of the height of galaxy-spotting season… astronomically-wise speaking… and I have yet to get the first attempt in… While the weather has been warmer – and by a long shot – the clouds haven’t co-operated at all! Every time I get to one of my old standby shooting spots, the clouds have, by then, decided just what the weather forecasters can go and do with their “predictions”, and their “gonna be a great night’s”, and their “get outside and enjoy the evening’s”… ad infinitum… It’s becoming quite frustrating, photographically-wise speaking… And I know I should be grateful for the ability to stay outside without a propane heater the size of San Bernardino county (which is the largest county in the U.S., by area… (The largest USED to be in Georgia, if memory serves… (but memory just ain’t as interested in the service industry as she used to be… speaking-wise speaking…)))* *[A prenthetical triplet… With …

Night refraction…

I found a new place to shoot the stars… It’s two degrees darker on the darksky.org site than any other place close to me Unfortunately, it’s also twice as far away as my usual area… And the night I decided to check it out, the was a 50% moon out. You may remember the 18% moon out during the shoot of the farming sheds. And how there was a more or less visible shadow of yours truly… How moly was there a visible shadow out this night. And only a 50% moon…

Well… I mean… what can I say…?

The post before this one was a shot taken from within the Grand Tetons National Park, out in the wilds of the high Wyoming desert… More like dessert, to me… At least, it seemed that way while I was out there… The above gif, on the other hand, was taken in my backyard the other night. It was the most clear and dark I’ve seen this neck of the woods, in the 30 or so years I’ve been living here…
